There are many different types of Christmas trees you can choose from when you are out shopping for the holidays.  These trees include a real tree, a mini tree, electric artificial, and a put together artificial tree.  Considering the right tree can ensure your holidays are happy.

Most people who have a family and children like to get a real tree every year for the holidays.  Some people recognize the real tree as a tradition and it just doesn’t seem like Christmas without the real tree.  They like the smell of the tree in the air in the house and they don’t mind the work it takes to have it.  The only set back with a real tree is that you need to be sure that you give it plenty of water and keep it moist.  A dry tree is a fire hazard.  You might be thinking you need to put up edge protector and cardboard edge protectors to protect all of the children coming to visit this year.  Don’t forget to water the tree.  A real tree can also make a mess that can be a pain to clean up.

Many people who live on their own and don’t really have any family to enjoy the holidays with don’t necessarily need a tree at all.  It is common for people who find no reason to go through the effort to get a mini tree.  You might still want to celebrate the holiday and you can by setting up a mini tree.  This will allow you to still have a tree but eliminate all of the work required by setting up a real tree.  Plus, if you live in an apartment or a place it is difficult to get a full size tree in, a mini tree makes sense.

Another type of tree you can choose for the holidays is an electric tree.  The electric Christmas trees are ideal for those people who don’t want the mess, the hazard, and want to save money by not having to buy another tree ever again.  An artificial tree can be manually put together each year by you.  These come in layers.  You begin by placing the base on the floor and placing each piece in one at a time until the tree is built.  You then sort out the limbs of the tree to make them look right.  Artificial trees can come with lights already on them, which can save you the hassle of placing the lights on the tree.  If you have issues with the Christmas tree ornaments breaking and getting glass on the floor all of the time, you might consider a predecorated artificial tree.  That’s right.  Some artificial trees can be purchased with the decorations already on them.  All you have to do is pull the tree out of the custom packaging solutions box, plug the tree in, and with your remote control, the tree will rise on its own, and the limbs will fall into place, and be already decorated.  The lights will be on and you will be ready for the holidays.  People with a busy lifestyle or who do not enjoy decorating the trees love the electric artificial trees already decorated.

Safety when Decorating with Christmas Tree Lights

Decorating a Christmas tree can be a super fun activity for the entire family. When you all get together to decorate there are many things to consider with the tree lights so there are no dangers. Even though the fun is important there are safety hazards associated with these two things.

When you put the tree lights on the tree it is important to be sure you are using indoor lights designed for the trees. You should not use outdoor lights outdoors. Be sure when you shop for lights you find a set with the UL symbol on the package. It can be very dangerous if you put outdoor lights indoors. Some people are so excited about the holiday they don’t consider the lights or think it really matters.

Many people like to use the same lights every year on their Christmas tree. You can use the lights over and over but it is important to properly inspect the strands to be sure they are safe to use. You should look at the sockets, wires and the connections. The sockets should not be cracked or broken. The wires should not be frayed or visible. Also be sure the connections to the lights are not loose. If you see any of these signs with a strand of lights you should throw them away and buy a new set so there is not a fire in your home.

Another thing to consider when you are decorating trees with lights is to limit yourself on the number of strands of lights you use on the tree. Some people like a lot of light on their trees. You should never strand together more than three sets of lights for Christmas. If you want a super bright tree and three strands is not enough, you might consider buying from prelit Christmas trees instead. Stranding too many lights together can cause attenuation with the strands and also be a fire hazard.

Safety issues with lights also include how you run the cord to plug the lights into the wall. If there is not an outlet near the tree you will have to run an extension cord to plug the lights in. This can be a tripping hazard if it is out in the open. You also should never run the cords under rugs. Be sure to put the lights against the wall. Do not use a staple gun to run lights either. You can damage the cable and it can be a fire hazard.

Hazards with Christmas trees can occur with a fresh tree or with artificial Christmas trees too. You should always take care when you use tree lights. Be sure the lights are designed for indoors and they are for a Christmas tree. There shouldn’t be any signs of damage on the strands and never run more than three strands together at once. You also need to take proper care of your lights and run them properly throughout the home. The safety of you and your home is more important than the bright lights on the tree. The last thing you need is a fire in your home.
